Board Member: Why Sia's Foundation Is Important To Me!

I'd known Sia for years and was shocked when she was abruptly taken away from us. I serve on the board for her, my mother, who had Lewy Bodies Dementia, my sister-in-law, who is recovering from a brain aneurysm, and everyone else who has been affected by a brain condition, including myself.

Dorothy is a Living Miracle! The Mowbray family's world was turned upside down on December 10, 2021, when. Dorothy awoke with low energy, exhaustion despite having slept all night, migraine headaches, and vomiting (signs and symptoms of a brain aneurysm). Dorothy had a seizure as she was getting back into bed; her husband Allan immediately dialed 911, and she was taken to Altamonte Advent Health, where she was in a coma. An immediate CAT scan revealed bleeding in her brain, and she was airlifted to Advent Health South Hospital, where a stint was installed to relieve the pressure caused by the brain bleeding.

Dorothy was transferred to a Skilled Nursing Rehab Facility on January 27, 2022, where she received physical, speech, and occupational therapy until her discharge on February 20, 2022. Dorothy attended her son Kelan's wedding in Tampa, Florida, on the the same day she was discharged.

Dorothy and Allan Mowbray attended the Sia Yorker Medical Science Scholarship Banquet on March 5, 2022, where she was named the 2022 Sia Yorker Prestigious Woman of the Year and was presented with a beautiful diamond-cut glass plaque. Then, through scholarships for graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in the medical field, we give hope for a better future. Who knows if one of these scholarship winners will find a cure for a Brain Aneurysm, Hemorrhagic Stroke, Dementia, or Parkinson's Disease, for example?
